Bob Dylan sang it best in the ‘60’s, “For the times they are a-changin’”. That’s true in so many ways and with a new year comes new Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® shingle colors! While some Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® shingle colors have gone the way of the dodo bird, the new colors will hopefully make up for the discontinued colors. Let’s begin with the bad news first, right? Then, we can focus on moving onward and upward into the new year of shingle color possibilities!

Discontinued: Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® Shingle in Amber

We’ll no longer be seeing new Owens Corning Amber roofs crop up in the neighborhoods. While there isn’t a direct replacement color, there are some similar colors which we’ll get to in a moment.

Discontinued: Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® Shingle in Shasta White

Shasta White is one of the colors that got cut in 2023. There is no replacement for this color. Owens Corning likely found that it wasn’t popular enough to keep in the TruDefinition® Duration® line up. Times change, styles change and homeowners are turning to deeper, richer colors which, by the way, show less staining over time.

Discontinued: Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® Shingle in Quarry Gray

Quarry Gray is gone and this is surprising to us. Over the last year alone, many of our homeowners have picked Quarry Gray for their new roof. That said, the upcoming gray tones and grays that remain in the Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® line are sure to scratch that itch for a gray roof. Don’t worry too much.

Discontinued: Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® Shingle in Desert Tan

Desert Tan getting the axe is another shock to us but keep reading and you’ll soon see the replacement shingle color. You might be pleasantly surprised at the amped up version of Desert Tan available in 2023.

That wasn’t so bad, was it? Only four colors have been discontinued but there are five new colors to look forward to in 2023. Now, let’s get to the fun part! Here are the new Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® color options available in 2023.

New! Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® Shingle in Desert Rose

Remember Desert Tan? Desert Rose is its beautiful new replacement. Desert Tan has been kicked up a notch with a warmer, rosier hue complete with a fitting name that rolls off the tongue a little sweeter.

New! Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® Shingle in Sand Castle

Sand Castle is new to the TruDefinition® Duration® line but it is not new to Owens Corning. Sand Castle was moved from Owens Corning’s Oakridge® shingle line this year. We’re glad they made this addition, especially because Amber is no longer available. Sand Castle looks like a deeper version of Amber.

New! Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® Shingle in Peppercorn

Peppercorn is a bold gray that won’t leave you missing the discontinued Quarry Gray. Peppercorn is a softer version of our most popular color Onyx Black. The design options with this neutral color are endless. You’ll be able to switch out your home’s exterior accent colors for years to come without feeling like your updated colors clash with your roof. Peppercorn is a reformulated version of Peppermill Gray which was previously available in the Oakridge® shingle line. Peppercorn is timeless and we foresee it being very popular in 2023.

New! Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® Shingle in Williamsburg Gray

Another stunning gray added to the TruDefinition® Duration® line is Williamsburg Gray. Williamsburg Gray is a brand new color to Owens Corning. This gray has overall more bluish, darker tones than Peppercorn. Bluish tones tend to have a cleaner, fresher feel and we love that in Williamsburg Gray.

Drum roll please…the 2023 shingle color of the year is Midnight Plum!

Midnight Plum is a totally brand new shingle color and nothing like we’ve seen before. It’s absolutely stunning and our new favorite by far! It’s a unique blend of dusty purple shades that are sure to wow neighbors and passersby alike. Owens Corning describes Midnight Plum as a “constellation of color” inspired by the midnight sky. This may feel like a risky or trendy move that you’ll have to live with for 25+ years but as you’ll see below, it’s a subtle purple that can be played up or down depending on your home’s accent colors. Personally, we would lean into the purple!
